At the University Hos- pital almost everyone knew Father Henry as “the American.” When I was with a patient or a hospital worker and I asked them, “Do you know the chaplain?”, they would answer, “The American, the really tall one?” Many of the nurses called him “the good-looking chaplain”, even though I insisted that one should not make that kind of comment about a priest.
When the Servant Brothers and Sisters started working at the hospital, people did not make many visits to the chapel. Little by little, we would open it more often. Soon more people began to come, captivated by Father Henry’s homilies and by his spirit.
This is a simple example how Fr. Henry integrated our faith into games that allowed the boys to see that if the Eucharist is not the center of their life or if they slack off in their relationship with Our Blessed Mother, then their ship is going to sink.
